Trash is a part of our lives whether we like it or not. There are certainly things we can do to reduce this, but if it remains well hidden and we’re not aware, the problem is more likely to continue. These images are from a garbage incineration plant not far from where I live. The massive scale of the operation overwhelmed me: a million pounds a day!

These images got me to a show in China, a group exhibit at the Beijing Film Academy with colleagues from the Art department at the University of Minnesota, through a program directed by professor Tom Rose.

One of these images, the first, was used on the cover of Emerging, the College of Design’s (University of Minnesota) twice annual magazine. Returning from Beijing, I came back with a whole new set of photos! With 100 of these images, I made a book.
